Ex-Zanu-PF chef up for bashing wife

FORMER Zanu-PF central committee member Munyaradzi Right Banda was hauled before the courts for allegedly bashing his wife be- cause she had attended a friend's party. Banda, 51, was released on free bail when he appeared before Harare magistrate Rumbidzayi Mugwagwa charged with physical abuse and intimidation.

He was remanded to November 12. Banda's wife, Winnet Chamboko, 39, on October 13 went to a friend's party around 2pm.

It is alleged that Banda called her hours later in- quiring about her whereabouts and Chamboko told him that she was coming from a party. this did not go down well with Banda and he began shouting at her and threatened that he would kill Chamboko first, then her friend.

The court heard Chamboko recorded the conversation and when she arrived home an argument ensued.

Banda allegedly began assaulting his wife, smashing her against the wall and she reached for a stool, but was overpowered. Chamboko's son from a previous marriage, Bradly, managed to enter the room and restrained Banda.

According to State papers, Chamboko sustained a swollen right eye, bruised left elbow and suffered pain all over her body.

She reported the matter to the police and was referred for medical examinations at Parirenyatwa Hospital. The medical affidavit and photos taken immediately after the incident have been attached to the docket as evidence.
