EcoCash glitches: POTRAZ seeks answers

EcoCash glitches: POTRAZ seeks answers
Published: 04 July 2018
The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) has engaged Econet to seek clarification over the breakdown of their mobile transaction platform that plunged business to a standstill over the last two days.

A message of apology by the mobile network provider is all that the consumer knows following a serious breakdown of the Ecocash transaction platform experienced this Monday spilling into Tuesday.

Although large retailers have not opened on the actual loss, the cost on their business could run into several thousands in lost revenue as customers desperately walked away after failed transactions.

The damage was replicated on both small entrepreneurs and consumers.

Commanding a huge percentage of consumers who use this platform to transact the feeling within the market is for effective communication that would have cushioned them from such inconveniences.

Apparently, this information was not privy to the government with revelations that the regulatory authority has written to Econet seeking clarification.

By mid-morning today, normalcy was creeping back into the system.

A call by this news crew to the Ecocash Chief Executive Officer Ms Natalie Jabangwe seeking clarification failed to bear fruit as she responded with an SMS indicating she was in a meeting.
