New Zupco board announced

New Zupco board announced
Published: 26 July 2017
The government has appointed a new board at the Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (ZUPCO) tasked with the mandate to restore the viability of the parastatal into a vibrant and competitive entity.

The parastatal's performance over the last decade had drastically declined owing to a number of factors, among them capitalisation constraints and under-performance by management.

The predominance of para-transit modes of transport popularly known as commuter omnibuses had almost sealed the fate of the once vibrant bus firm.

The appointment of the new board led by Engineer Quinton Kanhukamwe at ZUPCO is thus viewed by government as an important step to reviving fortunes at the parastatal.

Plans are already underway to procure a fleet of buses from offshore markets in line with the vision to ensure that ZUPCO repositions itself as an efficient and affordable urban public transport operator.

Engineer Kanhukamwe, who is also Harare Institute of Technology Vice Chancellor,  says they are ready to hit the ground running, projecting a positive outlook at the parastatal within the next three months.

The 7-member board has Engineer Kanhukamwe as the chair and he is deputised by Mr George Chigora.

Board members include Mr Benson Samudzimu, Engineer Bernard Musarurwa, Mrs Kudzai Murefu-Tshuma, Mrs Fannie Mutepfa, and Mr Dennis Ndlovu.
